From personal reflections on the connection between architecture and activism to working with the material earth and with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh: German architect Anna Heringer seeks to highlight situations, people, challenges and solutions that are often not given enough attention. This book presents her contemplations on light in its many forms - discussing the interplay of clay, textiles and natural light as well as the philosophical concepts of light and hope. Heringer's reflec- tions as one of the pioneers of sustainable architecture are accompanied here by her work with the women of Dipdii Textiles, whose embroidered sari blankets serve as a common thread throughout the book.

Claude Lichtenstein

For over seventy years, the Swiss company Therma produced electric appliances ranging from irons and stoves to refrigerators and kitchens. From 1904 to 1978 the firm underwent all economic stages of a successful industrial organization: from its humble beginnings as a small family business in a Swiss alpine valley to one of Switzerland's most significant industrial manufacturers with international reach.
The company's history coincides with the long decades of wide-ranging modernization of the Global North over the course of electrification. Therma was a company that did not simply sumbit to this process, but instead actively sought to affirm its competitive edge. Innovations in the field of electric cooking were particularly targeted at the modern housewife - through the gender roles evoked by this image, societal boundaries of the time become visible and legible.
This publication offers the first comprehensive account of the history of Therma and its role in the development of industrial design from art nouveau to modernism. This exemplary history is presented in six chapters filled with a wide range of previously unpublished illustrations, including from the Therma collection in the economic archive of the Swiss Canton Glarus.

Albania is a young democracy, home to three million people. The country sits at the heart of the Mediterranean; its geographic location has long shaped the country's cultural exchanges and built environment.
From Ottoman rule to Italian occupation, communist isolation to post-socialist transformation, and located between the Adriatic and Ionian seas bordering Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro: Albania has been shaped by past eras and absorbed a rich mix of religious, cultural and architectural influences - Islamic, Christian Orthodox, Catholic and secular.
Following the collapse of the dictatorial regime in 1992, a rupture with the past emerged as people rebelled against regime-era buildings, reappropriating public space for self-expression. The ongoing renewal has placed architecture at the center of national discourse until today.
The Albanian Files focuses on the architectural transformation of the last three decades. Under the auspice of Elia Zenghelis (1937-2024), prime minster Edi Rama, then mayor of Tirana, invited the Berlage Institute in 2004 to contribute to the capital city's redevelopment, spearheading international involvement in Albania. This book records the country's ongoing architectural ambitions by attempt- ing an overview of the built and proposed works by prominent international architects working in Albania since the early 2000s. -

The master of screen printing guards the secrets surrounding his recipes and processes like the tinkerers and inventors of old. The Swiss Lorenz Boegli developed this printing technique in a quality that is unattainable for other printing processes. Together with the manufacturer, he developed the technique of RGB printing with pearlescent pigments to a mastery that is used by the crème de la crème of fashion, watch and jewelry brands for their packaging and printed matter. In cultural projects, the printer continues to develop his processes and astounds with emotional results that are only remotely reminiscent of traditional screen printing.
Boegli's products achieve their maximum effect in this publication in combination and juxtaposition with offset printing in equally high quality - on exquisite paper and in careful variation. Superb examples of printing using the various printing processes offer an incomparable and stunning visual pleasure.
Text contributions in letterpress enhance the haptic sensation of the book. Experts from various disciplines shed light on the metaphor of alchemy in relation to Boegli's mastery and its significance for commercial use as well as for the advancement of the printing industry.
The publication was produced in close cooperation between Lorenz Boegli, the quality printing house Grafiche Antiga in Treviso and the traditional Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni, supported by Merck KgaA, Darmstadt. -

The concept of lightness is explored in numerous contexts, showcasing its influence on material and architectural choices, philosophical considerations and aesthetic behaviors. The book is divided into eight distinct topics, each one containing a text by a contributor with a unique knowledge, thus offering a range of fascinating perspectives. At the same time, Lightness serves as a visual essay by Suppanen, showcasing the poetry of lightness as it is mani- fested in different cultures, contexts and scales globally.
